Gems are the primary currency in Tunnel Town, with a subsidiary currency of Stars. They are also currency in the popular game, Animal Jam. In Tunnel Town, gems can be obtained by selling bunnies or items, or by placing bunnies on mines to work. Gems can also be purchased in McFluffin's Market using real money.
Appearance[]
Gems are usually represented as shiny and colorful coin-like disks. When collecting them from mining, they appear in the color of the gemstone being mined, but they are otherwise depicted in a variety of colors.
Mining[]
Mining uses the bunny's energy to produce gems. The available mines are Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby and Diamond.
Certain bunnies mine gems slower or faster than others. Bunnies are divided into 16 different rates of mining gems (called mining groups). Leveling up a bunny also allows it to mine slightly faster.
The mining groups are (slowest to fastest):
- Group 1: Albino, Angler, Dust, Freedom, Gnome, Prairie, Pumpkin, Seafoam, Sprout
- Group 2: Mountain, Sun
- Group 3: Beetle, Bunny of Paradise, Chinchilly, Fox, Leopard, Moon, Narwhal, Rooster, Rosebud, Skunk
- Group 4: Cactus, Snowflake, Zebra
- Group 5: Bee, Goat, Seahorse, Snail, Dinosaur
- Group 6: Autumn, Butterfly, Candy Stripe, Jackalope, Roadrunner, Shark, Walrus, Witch
- Group 7: Gobbler
- Group 8: Frog, Ladybug, Mouse
- Group 9: Franken, Vampire, Wildflower
- Group 10: Lion, Wildebeest, Founder, Frosty
- Group 11: Turtle, Unicorn
- Group 12: Fjord, Squid, Elf
- Group 13: Plymouth Coney
- Group 14: Chameleon, Santa, Toucan
- Group 15: Miner '49er
- Group 16: Luck
- Group 17: Chinese Dragon
Mining Spots[]
There are four types of mining spots, each a different gemstone: Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby, and Diamond. An individual burrow has 2 Sapphires, 2 Emeralds, 1 Ruby, and 1 Diamond, with Sapphires being the closest to the surface and Diamonds being the furthest underground. Gemstones that are deeper underground produce gems slower, but have a higher gem limit.
Icon | Name | Depth | Working Bunnies [1] | Gem Limit [2] |
---|---|---|---|---|
Sapphire | Sapphires are found in the topmost dig layer (automatically unlocked). | 1 | 500 | |
Emerald | Emeralds are found in the second and third dig layers (unlocked at levels 5 and 10, respectively). | 2 | 2,500 | |
Ruby | A Ruby is found in the fourth dig layer (unlocked at level 15). | 3 | 5,000 | |
Diamond | A Diamond is found in the fifth and deepest dig layer (unlocked at level 20). | 3 | 10,000 |
Mining Calculation[]
This section details exactly how a bunny's mining speed is calculated. If you aren't interested in this or would rather not read through a bunch of math, feel free to skip.
Mining speed depends on three factors: the bunny's base speed, the bunny's level, and what type of gemstone the bunny is mining from.
- Base speed: Base speed is the rate at which this bunny would mine if it were level 1 and mining from a Sapphire. Bunnies in the same mining group have the same base speed. For example, all bunnies in mining group 2 have a base speed of 21; this means that a level 1 Sun Bunny or level 1 Mountain Bunny placed on a Sapphire would both mine at a rate of 21 gems per minute. (A list of all mining groups' base speeds can be found at the end of this section.)
- Bunny level: A bunny's mining speed slowly increases as it levels up. By leveling up from level 1 to level 2, its speed increases by one-fifth of its base speed. For every level-up after, its speed will increase by one-tenth of its base speed. Once reaching level 10, the bunny will now mine at double its base speed.
- Gemstone: Lastly, after base speed and bunny level have been factored in, the type of gemstone determines the final mining rate. If mining from an Emerald, the bunny's speed is multiplied by 0.5. If mining from a Ruby, the bunny's speed is multiplied by 0.4. If mining from a diamond, the bunny's speed is multiplied by 0.3. If mining from a Sapphire, the bunny's speed is unchanged.
Here is the equation used to calculate speed, where b represents base speed, v represents bunny level, and x represents the result: x = b + (0.1b * v). Afterwards, x is multiplied by 0.5, 0.4, 0.3, or left unchanged, depending on gemstone type. The value of x after this is the final rate of per minute. (The equation ONLY applies to bunnies that are level 2 or higher; for a level 1 bunny, simply use its base speed and multiply based on gemstone.)
Here is a list of every mining group and its base speed:
- Group 1: 20 per minute
- Group 2: 21 per minute
- Group 3: 22 per minute
- Group 4: 24 per minute
- Group 5: 25 per minute
- Group 6: 26 per minute
- Group 7: 27 per minute
- Group 8: 28 per minute
- Group 9: 29 per minute
- Group 10: 30 per minute
- Group 11: 31 per minute
- Group 12: 32 per minute
- Group 13: 33 per minute
- Group 14: 34 per minute
- Group 15: 36 per minute
- Group 16: 40 per minute
- Group 17: 50 per minute
Trivia[]
- After the bunnies reach gem limit for a mining spot, they will sit still and read newspapers or magazines.
